“There will be no Christmas supplements to pensions, and this is the main change in our policy towards pensioners – instead of giving allowances of BGN 50 twice a year, we are increasing the pension income of pensioners monthly by a little over BGN 50.”
Social Minister Ivanka Shalapatova said this in an interview with bTV.bg.
She specified that it refers to the increase of the minimum pension from BGN 523 to BGN 580. This increase in pensions is included in the budget of the State Social Security and is 11% from July, according to the Swiss rule.
Shalapatova added that the average pension is expected to rise by about BGN 100 per month. The inflation forecast is below 5%, while the increase in pensions is 11%, she emphasized.
A 26% increase in widow’s allowances is also planned.
“Our goal is to permanently increase the amount of pensions so that they are adequate. And on the other hand – to activate pensioners. Yesterday, the Council of Ministers adopted a plan for the active life of pensioners,” the Minister of Social Affairs also announced.
The plan envisages free training on digital skills for the elderly and inclusion in social and public life.
Next year, the Ministry of Social Affairs, together with the Ministry of Finance and the National Social Insurance Institution, will also organize an information campaign for the youngest, so that they understand why it is important to insure themselves on the full amount of their salary.
