Government Increases LCGC Price Limit, Calya’s Official Banderol Remains

Jakarta

The government officially raises the price limit for low cost green cars (LCGC). Now, the price limit for LCGC has increased by 5% from before.

Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita confirmed that the LCGC price adjustment had been officially implemented. According to Agus, the increase reached five percent.

“It’s been implemented, it’s running. That’s why they (manufacturers) introduce a lot of (new products),” said Agus Gumiwang at JCC Senayan, Central Jakarta, Friday (10/3).

Referring to the Regulation of the Minister of Industry (Menperin) Number 33 of 2013, regarding the Development of Production of Energy-Saving and Affordable Motorized Vehicles (KBH2), the reference price is set at IDR 95 million. This price was later revised and stated in Permenperin Number 36 of 2021, concerning Low Carbon Emission Four-Wheel Motorized Vehicles, to IDR 135 million.

With the increase in the LCGC price by 5 percent, the standard price for this entry-level vehicle has increased by around Rp. 6.7 million.

Even so, not all LCGCs have increased in price. PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM) chose to maintain the price of the Toyota Calya.

“Calya hasn’t had any increases at the moment, so it’s just Agya (which has increased prices),” said Marketing Director of PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM) Anton Jimmi Suwandy at JCC Senayan, Central Jakarta, Friday (10/3).

According to Anton, there are many considerations for Toyota to maintain Calya’s price. Especially now that Idul Fitri is approaching, so Toyota has chosen not to raise Calya’s price.

“I can’t be sure (when Calya’s price increase will be). Because costs and material costs keep moving, so we’re still paying attention to costs and market conditions. And we see the current conditions are heading towards Eid, so we’ll keep it this March. And hopefully it will last in April,” said Anton.

“There are many considerations, one of which is cost, material considerations, then consideration of competition and market conditions. In March we will set (a price increase) for the new Agya, but this is not only a price increase, but there are model changes in it,” he said.

Following are the prices for the Toyota Calya as of March 2023:

  • E M/T STD Rp 162.200.000
  • EM/T IDR 165,100,000
  • GM/T IDR 170,700,000
  • GA/T IDR 184,900,000.
