Government extends corona support measures and gives extra support to the catering and event sector

Below is an overview of the most important measures that will be extended:

  • temporary unemployment due to corona for all sectors,
  • temporary unemployment for parents of a child who is in quarantine,
  • double bridging right for self-employed persons who have to close,
  • only bridging right for sectors with a certain loss (such as the catering industry),
  • premium of 25 euros per month for subsistence wages, minimum pensions and people with a replacement income,
  • possibility to defer payment of withholding tax and VAT,
  • possibility of deferral of social security contributions,
  • those who receive a vaccine do not have to come to work that day,
  • cumulative pension and temporary COVID unemployment benefits (those who are temporarily unemployed as a result of COVID continue to accrue supplementary pension),
  • retired healthcare staff who voluntarily return to work may combine pension with income (until 30 June 2022),
  • VAT rate of 6 percent for mouth masks and alcohol gel,
  • additional help through PCSWs for citizens who have suffered a loss of income.

In addition, the social security contributions for the events sector will be reduced for the fourth quarter of this year (October-November-December). Businesses will be able to recover taxes on income from canceled events.

The government will also support the catering sector in the payment of the year-end bonuses.
