Dresden (dpa / sn) – Saxony has again offered the Czech Republic help in containing the corona pandemic. Specifically, it is about the admission of intensive care patients and the delivery of vaccines and rapid tests to the particularly affected border regions, announced the State Chancellery in Dresden on Friday. An official request for help from the Czech government to the federal government must be submitted for the admission of patients. Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU) had already promised his colleague Andrej Babiš help in the past few days.

According to the State Chancellery, the Czech Minister of Health Jan Blatný has since confirmed that his government has turned to Germany, Poland and Switzerland for support. “The effective containment of the corona pandemic can only be achieved together. The Czech neighbors are our friends – we are grateful for the trust and cooperation that has grown. In times of crisis, help is a matter of course for us,” explained Kretschmer. Saxony will have nine intensive care beds ready for patients from the Czech Republic. Together with Bavaria and Thuringia, a total of 16,800 vaccine doses have been delivered to Czech border regions.

“It is very important for everyday life on both sides of the border to urgently bring the infection process under control,” emphasized Kretschmer. At the same time, they offered the delivery of 40,000 rapid tests for the particularly affected border regions.
