Jakarta, CNNIndonesia —
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif denied that the government would subsidize fuel oil (BBM) Pertamax for the sake of reducing pollution in Jakarta which has been getting worse lately.
Arifin even said that there was no discussion regarding the giving of Pertamax subsidies. He said the issue was not true.
“There was no such discourse (Pertamax subsidies), who was the one making up it?” he said after at the State Palace Complex, Monday (28/8).
Arifin stressed that until now, Pertamax is a type of fuel that is not subsidized by the government. That’s different from pertalite and diesel.
“There’s no Pertamax subsidy. You’ve already said that Pertamax is subsidized, isn’t it,” he explained.
However, he admitted that there was indeed discussion about environmentally friendly fuels that needed to be encouraged for their use at a time like this. However, the discussion was never about the Pertamax subsidy.
“This is a fuel problem, there are many examples of fuel, which is really a clean pollutant level of all kinds. We still use fuel that does (produce pollution). But the point is how can this reduce pollution from transportation. There is no discussion of the Pertamax subsidy,” he concluded.
The news that the government is reviewing the provision of subsidies for Pertamax to overcome air pollution was recently revealed by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Dadan Kusdiana.
This is done so that people switch to high-octane fuels that can help reduce pollution. Pertamax itself is 92 octane fuel (RON).
“That (subsidies for Pertamax) is one that is being discussed. We are discussing it again, looking at it technically as well as regulatoryly and economically because it’s different. So there will be something from the Minister (Arifin Tasrif) soon, but we are still discussing it internally. “said Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Dadan Kusdiana when met on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the 41st ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM), Nusa Dua, Bali, as quoted by CNBC Indonesia on Thursday (24/8).
