Government defends and promulgates US $ 119.9 million contract to purchase Pfizer vaccine

The Executive Power promulgated this Tuesday, through resolution 116-21, the contract for the purchase of 9.9 million Pfizer vaccines worth $ 119.9 million, and it was defended by several officials during a press conference held at the National Palace.

José Ignacio Paliza, administrative minister of the Presidency; Antoliano Peralta, Legal Consultant of the Executive Power; and Daniel Rivera, Minister of Public Health, indicated that the acquisition of vaccines has been monopolized by rich countries, but that in all that battle, the State has managed to obtain drugs against COVID-19.

The one promulgated this Tuesday by President Luis Abinader is the so-called Manufacturing and Supply Contract, which replaces the contract called the Binding Terms and Conditions, approved on January 29, through resolution 9-21.

This in principle included the purchase of 7.9 million vaccines at a cost of 95.9 million dollars, according to officials told the press at the Government House.

Antoliano Peralta acknowledged that government contracts have been signed under conditions of inequality, since they cannot claim. However, he clarified that the Dominican Government has not made any advance payment because it was enacted on Tuesday.

The consultant clarified that the contracts have not been paid in full, but that the government has made initial payments.

José Paliza, for his part, indicated that the opposition uses its methods to try to limit the government. However, he maintained that the Government has managed to reserve millions of vaccines to guarantee the health of Dominicans.
