government changes screening strategy

Faced with the coronavirus, the government changes gear. Until then, screenings were only prescribed in case of suspected contamination. But Thursday, June 25, the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, announced a turnaround in this strategy. In Île-de-France, no less than 1.3 million preventive screenings will be carried out in the coming weeks in order to find possible dormant clusters.

Indeed, by testing more people, the public authorities intend to find people carrying Covid-19 but asymptomatic who, if they are not discovered, could contaminate new people. “Before, we had a lot of tests, but it was people who were sick. Today, the number is almost constant, except that these are people who are less sick. There is more prevention”, explains doctor Caroline Gutsmuth, medical biologist.
