JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The government said there is a plan to eliminate Premium types of fuel.
The plan is in line with the Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation Number 20 of 2017 concerning the limits of the Research Octane Number (RON).
This was disclosed by the Director General of Pollution and Environmental Damage Control at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry MR Karliansyah.

He said, PT Pertamina (Persero) would phase out Premium gasoline on January 1, 2021.
The plan is for the policy to be implemented in Java, Madura and Bali (Jamali).
Responding to the statement, Pertamina Subholding Commercial and Trading CEO Mas’ud Khamid said the decision to abolish the assignment of fuel sales was entirely in the hands of the government.
“The decision to remove an assignment of BBM product is the regulator’s authority, not Pertamina,” Mas’ud told Kompas.com, Saturday (14/8/2020).
In line with Mas’ud, Acting VP of Corporate Communication for Pertamina, Heppy Wulansari explained, even though his party is encouraging the use of more environmentally friendly fuel, the policy for premium distribution is the government’s authority.
“Pertamina is committed to encouraging the use of fuel with a higher RON, because in addition to being good for the environment it will also have a positive impact on vehicle engines and cleaner air,” said Heppy.
Previously, MR. Karliansyah, said that on Monday (9/11/2020) he had just met with Pertamina’s Operations Director and said that as of January 1, 2021 Pertamina would eliminate Premium in Java, Madura and Bali.
