In order to raise safety standards among the drivers and reduce road accidents, Ministries of Finance and Transport and Telecommunications started the process to implement the new digital driver’s license.

The initiative that is part of the State Modernization Agenda, took its first step with the publication of the purchase intention to hire an intelligence systems developer that would allow to have the information and résumé of the driver in a software called “License Management System”.

The format seeks that each driver has a QR code associated with their license, which will be in the physical document and in the digital one.

The Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, Gloria Hutt, He added that it is expected to reduce the issuance of false licenses.


For his part, Minister of Finance, Ignacio Briones, He noted that this method will serve to create more focused public policies, for example.

The white march for this project is expected to begin in the first half of next year and it is estimated that all drivers will have the new digital document within seven years.
