In a press release, the Government reported that the General Secretariat of the Presidency (SGP) received within the established period 22 shortlists for the election of the titular governor and 19 shortlists for the election of the alternate governor.
“In total, the profiles of 37 candidates and 84 candidates for regular and alternate governors were received,” it was stated.
In addition, challenges presented by civil society during the application process were also received.
“Starting this week, the evaluation of the profiles and objections presented about the processes and the candidates begins, which will be complemented with information provided by government agencies,” the document stated.
This evaluation will be carried out during the week. Then, the president, Bernardo Arévalo, will make the decision for him.
“The president has been emphatic in declaring that if the shortlist and the candidates do not meet the expectations that the position demands, he will reject the proposals, returning to the Departmental Development Councils the responsibility of proposing a new shortlist within the deadlines established by the Law” , the statement ended.
