Government bans will stop driving schools, delay thousands of students, and the slippage began in the summer

The new restrictions, which came into force on Thursday, October 22, also affected driving schools. They had to close their operations and cancel the tests. This will hold thousands of students, and the slide was already in the summer after the closure of driving schools, which took place in the spring of this year.

Government anti-coronavirus measures have again stopped driving schools. At the same time, teaching and examinations slipped after the spring crisis, and driving schools now had a large number of students. The current ban will once again delay the teaching and examination of thousands of applicants. In addition, for many operators, another break can cause existential difficulties, so they will demand compensation.

Ondřej Horázný, chairman of the Association of Driving Schools of the Czech Republic, said this to ČTK. The spring crisis slightly increased the prices of driving schools, the further development of their functioning is difficult to estimate, according to Horázný.

There are around 3,000 driving schools in the Czech Republic. Already in the spring, they had to stop operation due to coronavirus, which caused them hundreds of thousands of losses. The current crisis is likely to exacerbate these problems. Horázný admitted that further cessation of operations could cause existential difficulties for some operators. Driving schools have to continue to pay fixed costs, such as rents, leases, VAT, energy, road tax and other necessary fees. In addition, lost profits will increase.

In addition, the cessation of operations will again delay the teaching of several thousand students. At the same time, training and examinations were slipping after the spring crisis, as driving schools registered a large number of applicants after a break. In addition, some authorities, which according to Horázný did not manage to handle a large number of applicants for exams, also hampered teaching. In addition, driving schools cannot continue their theoretical instruction via the Internet, the law does not allow them to do so.

The chairman of the association could not estimate further developments in the operation of driving schools. The spring crisis and the summer increase in demand slightly increased exchange rates. Their average value is now estimated at around 12,000 to 13,000 crowns, before the crisis it was about 2,000 crowns less. Horázný said about a possible further increase in prices that prices will depend on the development of supply and demand.
