Government assumes error in the amount of support to be attributed to the Observer – Observer

The Government confirmed this Wednesday that it was mistaken in the amount of 19,906.29 euros attributed to the Observer in the form of advance purchase of institutional advertising and that appears in the resolution published in Diário da República the previous day. According to the Secretary of State for Cinema, Audiovisual and Media, the value to be attributed would be 90,568.98 euros.

This information was sent to the Observer after his position regarding the refusal of this support was made public, as he disagreed with the way it was done. “I hereby confirm the existence of an error in the transcription of the amount calculated for the acquisition of space for institutional publicity actions by the State from the Observer. Where € 19,906.29 is read, € 90,568.98 should be read ”, it reads in the information sent to the Observer, lamenting Nuno Artur Silva“ the error ”.

Even so, and as the Observer reported this Wednesday, the newspaper maintains that it will reject state support in the form of advertising because it “never asked for this type of support”, even asking the Government, in a letter sent on March 25 and in other positions, a more “neutral” solution, as read in the statement sent by the Board of Directors. On the other hand, the management of the newspaper and Radio Observador also considers that this “program does not meet minimum transparency criteria”.

According to the Council of Ministers’ resolution, Cofina – holder of titles such as Correio da Manhã, CMTV, Jornal de Negócios, Record or Saturday – will receive 1.691 million euros. The Global Media group – owner of Diário de Notícias, Jornal de Notícias, O Jogo and TSF radio – will receive 1.064 million euros.

The Rádio Renascença group will have a support of 480 thousand euros; Trust in News, which owns Visão, Exame and Caras, will receive 406 thousand euros and Sociedade Vicra Desportiva, owners of the newspaper A Bola and Bola TV, will receive 329 thousand euros. The Público newspaper will receive 314.8 thousand euros in institutional advertising contracts.

There are only five other national media groups covered by the measure, among them Newsplex, owner of the weekly Sol and daily i, will receive 38.6 thousand euros; Megafin, holder of Jornal Económico, receives 28.84 thousand euros; Avenida dos Aliados – Sociedade de Comunicação, owner of Porto Canal, will receive 23.2 thousand euros. Swipe News, owner of the economic newspaper Eco, would receive 18.98 thousand euros, but has also announced that it will refuse this amount.
