Government Appoints Eight Regional Governors in Bulgaria

The government appointed eight regional governors – of the Burgas, Veliko Tarnovo, Gabrovo, Pazardzhik, Razgrad, Ruse, Smolyan and Shumen regions. This was announced by the press center of the Council of Ministers.

Plamen Yanev is the new regional governor of Burgas. Until that moment, he held the position of deputy regional governor of the Burgas region. He has many years of experience in the banking and financial sector. He graduated with a master’s degree in “Insurance”, he has two bachelor’s degrees – “Insurance and social activities” and “Economic and financial control” from the Dimitar A. Tsenov Academy of Economics in Svishtov.

Ivaylo Zdravkov was appointed regional governor of Veliko Tarnovo. Until now, he was the director of the Territorial Directorate of the Revenue Agency in Veliko Tarnovo, and before that he led the regional structure of the State Receivables Agency. He is a lawyer by education.

Maria Basheva-Venkova is the new regional governor of Gabrovo. He is a consultant to the Chamber of Builders in Bulgaria, has managerial experience in the construction sector. She worked as an expert in the Directorate of Natural Park “Bulgarka” and in the Regional Administration – Gabrovo. He has a master’s degree in technical and economic sciences from the Technical University – Gabrovo.

Valentina Kaitazova has been appointed regional governor of Pazardzhik. In recent years, he has been the head of the Regional Department of Education-Pazardzhik, and before that he worked as a senior expert on the organization of secondary education in the same institution. She was the director of “Dr. Petar Beron” secondary school in Pazardzhik. Kaitazova has a master’s degree in pedagogy from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”.

Vladimir Dimitrov takes over the post of regional governor of Razgrad. His entire career was spent in the private sector in trade and construction. He has a master’s degree in public administration from Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar”.

Danail Kovachev has been appointed regional governor of Ruse. He was the head of the police station – Ivanovo and the head of the RU “Police” Dve Mogili, at the OD of the Ministry of the Interior – Ruse. In recent years, he worked in a company in the field of security and protection. He graduated from “Combating Crime and Preservation of Public Order” at the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Sofia, and has a Master’s degree in Law from the “Angel Kanchev” University of Ruse.

Zahari Sirakov is the new regional governor of Smolyan. He is a lawyer by profession, graduated from Plovdiv University “Paisiy Hilendarski”. He worked as a legal consultant in the Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water in Smolyan. Sirakov was a municipal councilor in the city from 2011 to 2015. During most of his career, he worked as a lawyer.

Dobromir Dobrev was appointed the regional governor of Shumen. In the period 2002-2013, he was the head of the Regional Inspectorate of Education in Shumen. Dobrev is a professor and lecturer at the Shumen University “Bishop Konstantin Preslavski” in political science, philosophy, ethics and regional and security. He was the director of the “Yoan Exarch Bulgarian” Secondary School in Shumen. He graduated from the St. Petersburg State University with a major in philosophy and socio-political disciplines.

The government’s decision on the appointments was made in absentia.
