Maryland Governor Wes Moore Shares Cleanup and Rebuild Efforts Update
Maryland Governor Wes Moore is set to provide the public with the latest information regarding the ongoing cleanup and rebuild efforts following the tragic collapse of Baltimore’s Key Bridge. The press conference will be held on Friday, March 29, 2024.
Press Conference Details
At 3:00 PM, Governor Moore, along with officials from various Maryland agencies, will address the public at the Maryland Transportation Authority Police Headquarters. This conference aims to update the citizens on the progress made and outline future plans.
The Aftermath: New Sonar Images Show Bridge Wreckage
In the aftermath of the collapse, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore, has released new sonar images depicting the wreckage. The images, captured by the U.S. Navy’s Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Supervisor of Salvage and Diving (SUPSALV), provide insights into the extent of the damage sustained by the Francis Scott Key Bridge.
The metal framework, visible above the waterline, is expected to be removed by the end of April, making way for a 35-foot-deep by 280-foot-wide Limited Access Channel in the federal channel span, according to officials from the USACE Baltimore.
Real-Time Traffic Map for Affected Drivers
The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration recommends affected drivers to utilize their real-time traffic map for efficient route planning following the collapse. This traffic map enables users to access live information on traffic volumes, incidents, and live camera feeds on the state highway system.
Accessible via the MDOT SHA website, users can access the map by selecting the Interactive Map icon.
