It is a gourmet blood donation organized this Sunday, April 16 by the French Blood Establishment at the multipurpose hall of Duparc. People who came to donate blood this Sunday at Duparc in Sainte-Marie were able to enjoy a typical Indian meal. The Association Culturelle Réunion Inde, which has been collaborating with the EFS for three years, also takes the opportunity to discover Indian culture through music and dance.

On the menu: eaten with milk, kandji, samosas, chilli candies, briani, tandoori chicken skewers, massaged rooster, pumpkin peas, Indian tea and cane juice. “The goal is to raise community awareness of a gesture that saves lives and to promote Indian culture”says Gianni Gobalsing, president of the association.

The donors themselves are delighted. According to Colette, the breakfast is perfect: “The chai is great, everything is good, it’s excellent. There are many patients who lack blood, as an Indian I am happy to participate in this action”, she says. Another regular donor likes the atmosphere, “the music relaxes, it’s great, it’s much more pleasant”he confides.

To save lives, “it takes a lot of donors”recalls the EFS. 120 blood donations are needed every day to meet the needs of patients, “the mobilization of donors is essential every day”insists the EFS.

  • Up to 50 donors to save a single person seriously injured in a car accident
  • Up to 5 donors to save a person who needs cardiovascular surgery
  • Up to 8 donors per week to help someone undergoing treatment for leukemia

The EFS recalls that blood donations must be regular and constant because the lifespan of blood products is limited: 7 days for platelets, 42 days for red blood cells.
