During the visit of Emmannuel Macron in the Lot, Jean-Marie Courtin was received Thursday June 3 in Cahors. A timely presidential interview, and ended with the announcement of the acquisition of an MRI, endorsed by the Quercy Bouriane community council (see our editions of June 7 and 8), for Gourdon hospital. Jean-Marie Couritn, president of the CCQB, mayor of Gourdon and president of the supervisory board of the hospital center, did not hesitate to initiate the hot files in higher places.
How did your interview go?
Following a telephone exchange, I had an interview at the prefecture before the arrival of the President. I was able to discuss with two advisers from the Élysée, to whom I must send the files and recontact them as soon as possible. Then with the President, we discussed the problems related to the Polt line, the school campus, the closure of primary classes and the Gourdon hospital center. I did not discuss the points discussed with his advisers since we are in contact and will work together from now on. This is the case of the financial situation of the city of Gourdon and the forecast of certain investments for which state aid is necessary.
Can you tell us more?
The request for MRI does not date from today, the deputy Huguette Tiegna, Gilles Liebus mayor of Souillac, and Nathalie Denis, departmental councilor, had actively supported this file. It should be remembered that the population concerned is more than 70,000 people, from the Lot and the Dordogne. One in three Lotois cannot have an MRI in the Lot. In addition, 40% of the population is over 60 years old, and therefore has a greater need for care, in a sector where means of transport are scarce. The hospital center is the largest employer in our basin, with 430 full-time equivalent jobs, plus induced jobs. MRI will make it possible to attract new specialists to come and expand the teams already present. You should also know that in Gourdon we have radiologists recognized for their excellence in the interpretation of imagery.
All these arguments, I was able to develop them with the President of the Republic. His decision fell immediately, an MRI will be quickly installed at the Gourdon hospital center, I only ask the Prefect to check that the teams are in place for its proper use. We know this is the case.
Are you satisfied ?
I am very satisfied for the whole population of our basin and the hospital staff who have been waiting for this MRI for a while. It’s a great success and I would like to thank all the people cited who helped me achieve this result, one year after becoming mayor of Gourdon. I very much appreciated the exchanges I had with Emmanuel Macron as well as with his advisers. They all have a remarkable capacity for listening, exchanges are easy, contacts have been established and I am sure will be of use to me for the benefit of the territory.
