“Welcome to my birthday party”: Entertainer Thomas Gottschalk celebrated his 70th birthday live on Monday night – together with surprise guests such as Günther Jauch, Barbara Schöneberger, Katharina Witt and a golden shower of confetti.
“It’s all over 50 party,” said Gottschalk at the beginning of the show. “We have to console ourselves that it will be a nostalgia event.” There was a serenade by Rolando Villazón and Schöneberger – as well as many gifts.
–
Feminist Alice Schwarzer certified Gottschalk not to be a sexist: “I’ve never seen you sexist – humor prevents you from that.” And Otto Waalkes sent him a drawing on which Gottschalk, Otto, Udo Lindenberg and an Ottifant – like the Beatles once did – cross the Abbey Road crosswalk.
–
As representatives of the somewhat younger generation, whose childhood shaped Gottschalk, the moderators Joko Winterscheidt and Klaas Heufer-Umlauf were there – the memories of this childhood shared: “If there was no time and it ran” Wetten, dass ..? “, These are went bowling anyway, “said Heufer-Umlauf about his parents. You just knew the kids wouldn’t go anywhere while the show was on. Heufer-Umlauf emphasized that he had admired Gottschalk in his childhood and youth. “I could not imagine that you are a real person. It is still difficult for me to understand today.”
–
There was sad news that evening as well: A long planned revival of “Wetten, dass ..?” there will be no this November. The special program is due to be postponed to 2021 due to the corona pandemic. Gottschalk closed his birthday show shortly after midnight: “We’ll see each other again on the 80th.”
