Gott’s painting sold for more than a thousand times the asking price!

One million four hundred and forty thousand crowns. The new owner paid so much for the painting from the multiple Golden Nightingale. “We offered the painting about a month ago, it was in an online auction with a starting price of only a thousand crowns,” described Jaroslav Jakub from the auction hall.

And then an avalanche broke out. People bid hundreds of thousands. But then the price stopped. “Until Thursday at 9 pm, when the end of the auction was planned, the price stagnated at 650 thousand, which I admit would be a big disappointment for us if the auction turned out this way,” admits Jakubec.

Within a few minutes, however, the price doubled. It stopped at the amount of 1.2 million crowns. To this must be added an auction surcharge of twenty percent, in this case 240 thousand.

In total, the new owner will pay almost a million and a half for an oil painting measuring 33 by 31 centimeters. “From our point of view, the price clearly corresponds to the quality of this work,” Jakubec is clear.

In the picture, Gott immortalized, for example, Tina Turner, Madonna or the opera singer Eva Urbanová. Originally, Václav Havel himself was supposed to be there. Out of respect for him, however, the Master allegedly decided to paint only the outline and stick a stamp with the president’s portrait in the middle.

The postage stamp with President Havel was glued to the painting directly by Karel Gott, so the work was auctioned directly with the Master’s DNA.

This is not the first painting to be auctioned after the author’s death. Two months after Karel Gott’s death, he went to auction his Variations on Mona Lisa. And even this work cost a nice package. Even with an auction surcharge of a total of two million crowns. Karl’s famous colleagues, such as Jiřina Bohdalová or Michal David, also have a unique painting by the Master. The latter has been pampering her for over ten years.
