MANNHEIM. The Danes’ cocky TV trailer divides handball Europe.
– The Danish media are insolent, says Jim Gottfridsson.
– A carrot that they keep doing that, says Lucas Pellas.
The gold is reserved for Denmark, other nations can fight for the silver in the handball EC.
That is the clear message in Danish TV2’s trailer ahead of the EC to which the channel has the rights.
It is a trailer that has caused reactions around handball Europe.
Some appreciate it as a fun trick with a twinkle in their eye, others are provoked.
– It’s among the most disgusting things I’ve seen, says handball profiler Emil Berggren in the Avkast podcast.
His partner Jamina Roberts was also out swinging at the Danish media together with teammate Nathalie Hagman during the Women’s WC in December.

“Need more excitement in handball”
The Danish national team stars led by Mikkel Hansen call the ad disrespectful Jyllands-Posten and the team distances itself from it.
So what do the Swedish EC players say?
Lucas Pellas has seen the trailer.
– It feels a bit Danish to poke the sleeping bear. You have to see it as a carrot that they keep doing that. But they don’t do it to be mean, but with a twinkle in their eye. Perhaps a little enthusiasm is needed in handball. It’s so very gentlemanly sometimes. It can be good with an extra carrot here and there. And the Danes have reason to be cocky as they are talented, says the winger and adds:
– They weren’t with us anyway. That might say something. Or it’s about them understanding what we say and not being able to translate as they want.
Gottfridsson and Solberg have a good laugh
Jim Gottfridsson has not seen the advertisement until Sportbladet shows it to him and he laughs heartily at the sight.
– It was a good one, hehe. No, but Denmark as a team, with players and leaders, are very humble. They work hard and know how to win titles. Danish media are more insolent. It is a big difference.

You don’t get provoked?
– No, I’ve been around a little too long to be provoked (laughs). I noted that Sweden was not included. But they might cut in another minute with us now, hehe.
Glenn Solberg also gets to see the trailer in Sportbladet’s mobile.
– Lol! It was awesome.
Provoked?
– No, I won’t be.
What would you have said if Viaplay had done the same thing with Sweden?
– If we had been such sky-high favorites as Denmark is now, we would have had to take it. but we are not, says the union captain.
