Gothic Remake Podcast Episode 3: Exclusive Developer Insights and Latest News

THQ Nordic and Alkimia Interactive made us wait a long time (five months) for the third episode of their Gothic Remake podcast, but it’s finally out. This time the number of interviewees increased to six. Among them: Reinhard Pollis (game director), Kai Rosenkrantz (composer), Daniel Kandil (art director), Javi Untoria (lead game designer), Joan Planelles (cinematic interlude designer) and Timur “T-Moor” Khodyrev (community -manager).

In it, the developers summed up everything that happened with the Gothic remake in 2023, sharing new information – including about the Old Camp and mods – and confirming some of the fans’ guesses.

  • If anyone was in doubt, Planelles confirmed that the guard whose bellows the main character steals in the trailer and who then beats him up in the arena is Bloodwin, known from the original.
  • In the game, the Old Camp will look exactly the same as in the trailer. Moreover, all the scenes that we saw in it will take place “live”, but in a different, random order.
  • Each face is unique, created manually by the developers.
  • As you already know, in the English version of Gothic Remake, the inhabitants of each camp will speak with a different accent. The East London dialect known as Cockney will predominate among the inhabitants of the Old Camp, but Diego, for example, will have a different accent.
  • Hunting skills will be significantly expanded compared to the original, because they should become the basis for survival in the wild. That’s why, on the exchange platform that journalists were able to see in the demo, there was a new fire on which players will – implicitly – cook their first meal (I don’t think any of the press representatives talked about this).
  • Each type of weapon will have its own movement animation. In addition, they will change as Nameless specializes in using one or another type of weapon.

As for other news about the game, unfortunately, we did not know a more precise release date than 2024. All we received was a promise that a gameplay presentation would be held some time later. The one that journalists saw turned out to be not “polished” enough to be shown to a wider audience.

It is possible that a demo with Nairas will be available or somehow hidden in the final version of Gothic Remake. Reinhard Pollis did not make any binding promises in this regard, since the final decision has not yet been made.

Finally, the developers answered four questions from the community that may have been asked in October (more questions will be asked in future episodes of the podcast). Here are their answers:

  • It has been confirmed that support for mods is planned, and perhaps the game will have an analogue of the “Marvin mode” from the original (this is a developer mode that allows you to enter commands/codes);
  • The approach to creating monsters has become clearer (so far we can see a skeleton mage, a harpy, a creeper, a goblin, a bloodsucker, a creeper and a gnarled monster);
  • According to the developers, the relationships between Dig, Milten, Gorn, Lester and the Nameless One will be expanded in Gothic Remake – the characters will meet to solve some problem together, and the player will have the opportunity to find out the details of their history;
  • The Nameless One has been denied editable character status – we won’t be able to change his hairstyle, beard or cover his body with tattoos.

Gothic Remake will be released on PC, PS5 and XSX/S. The game is expected to be released in 2024.
