Scandalous scenes unfolded at the Gothia Cup.
A huge fight broke out between Götaholm and Atletico Real Morelos.
– It was chaos and turmoil, says Götaholm’s coach Dan Andersson to Sportbladet.
It was in the tournament’s P18 class, where the teams met at Kortedalavallen in a decisive match for advancement, that everything broke loose.
Götaholm had made it 1-0 early on, and with ten minutes remaining they added the second from the penalty spot. Then it broke for some of the opponents in the Mexican Atletico Real Morelos.
– They went wild. Then it broke loose. Soon after, a guy hit one of our guys right in the face. Then our guy would fight back and both got a red card, says Götaholm’s coach Dan Andersson to Sportbladet.
“Cranked here and there”
After that, the irritation on the pitch escalated, and the cup overflowed for some.
– The Kalabalik erupted completely when they had a throw-in right where our guys were warming up. Those standing there said that their guy had taken the ball to throw a throw-in. When he ran past one of our guys, he stomped on his foot. Then one of our guys reflexively hit him in the back of the head.
The referee lost control of the situation, and the chaos got worse and worse, with people joining in from all over.
– Everyone rushed, even leaders towards our booth. There was uproar and chaos. It was hard to see what was happening because even the crowd got onto the pitch, which was sad. It was cranked a little here and there.
What did you do?
– I tried to separate those who fought. But it hardly worked, because there were so many people involved. It was chaos, people came in from everywhere. You had to spin your head in order not to go on a burglary.
One to hospital
Several police patrols were called to the scene and the situation calmed down. An ambulance was also called.
– We received information that a person who is 18 years old has been abused. But I have no circumstances other than that it happened in connection with the match, says Peter Adlersson, press spokesperson in the police region west.
Was anyone taken to hospital?
– The guy had to go to Östra hospital for a check-up. He had been hit in the head.
Is anyone detained?
– If there had been someone deprived of their liberty, it should have come to light by now, I think.
