Chef Pietro Fioriniello has suddenly passed away. He died this weekend in a tram accident in Gothenburg. Fioriniello, who was highly respected in Gothenburg’s restaurant world, turned 60 years old.

– Pietro has meant a lot to Italian gastronomy here, I would like to say. There are unfortunately not that many good Italian restaurants in Gothenburg, but Pietro has always had a fantastic, unusual interest in food, says his friend and chef colleague Marco Marabissi to Göteborgs-Posten.

Pietro Fioriniello ran the Italian restaurant La Cucina Italiana in Gothenburg for several decades. The restaurant is now closed until further notice.

“It is with great sadness that we announce that manager, father, husband, grandfather, Neapolitan and entrepreneur Pietro Fioriniello died tragically in an accident on February 3, 2024. He leaves behind an unimaginable sadness in his large family,” writes La Cucina Italiana on social media.

Hans is mourned most closely by his wife Marie and children Alessio, Viktor, Leonardo and Julia, but the sudden death of Pietro Fioriniello has shaken the entire Gothenburg pub world.

Marco Marabissi, who owns Bar Italia, came to Sweden at the same time as Pietro Fioriniello four decades ago. The two friends used to play with each other’s dialects and differences, he tells Göteborgs-Posten. Marabissi was from Rome, and Fioriniello from Naples.

Marabissi describes Fioriniello as an unusually ambitious chef. But the 60-year-old could also step out of the role of restaurant owner.

– He was the only restaurateur I know who was not open on Saturdays, because he wanted to spend time with his family.

Cato Helleren has warm memories of Pietro Fioriniello. They worked together for two seasons of the SVT program “Första dejten”.

– Pietro struck me above all as a very happy person. I remember he could walk around and sing a little.
