A Batman game without Batman? This is the question that many have asked themselves looking at the reveal of Gotham Knights yesterday evening.
Talking to DC Fandome on the panel Legacy of the Bat following the presentation, creative director Patrick Redding explained the reason for this unexpected decision.
In the game universe, which will be separate also Batgirl and Robin, Batman fought for Gotham’s safety for about 15 years before being killed in circumstances not yet clarified – and which presumably will be part of the story we will discover as we play.
«We wanted to take away any certainty, any feeling of security “, explained Redding, with a past as game director of Splinter Cell Conviction e Blacklist.
“So, we could get a Gotham City where Bruce Wayne had been operating as Batman for, like, 15 years – with all that history, its entire network of allies – and then take it out of the picture ».
WB Games Montreal realizes this “It really requires players to understand ‘how I would step forward, and how would i protect gotham city?‘».
Gotham Knights provides a roster of four characters to choose from, which includes also Batgirl and Robin.
The title will be cross-gen, therefore it is coming not only for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X but also PS4 and Xbox One, and is given out in 2021.
