It’s the end of a suspense that never really was: while Rocksteady, the studio behind the Batman Arkham franchise formalized its new Suicide Squad project, the Canadiens at WB Games Montreal ended a teasing slightly spoiled by a leak last June by revealing Gotham Knights, a new game adapted from the DC Comics superhero universe almost 7 years after their last excursion with Batman Arkham Origins in 2013.
Because it would be very difficult to do a direct sequel to the episode Arkham Knight, the Montreal studio decides to take a tangent, starting in a very different and quite unexpected direction.
For a world without bats
WB Games Montreal is proud of a novelty especially for their latest baby: Batman is six feet underground and happy to be. This scriptwriting starting point – hammered out in this beginning of the communication cycle to clarify the issues – will try to bring a breath of renewal to this now unofficial opus of the franchise. Batman Arkham, even if it retains the main characteristics such as the exploration of the city in an open world with a grappling hook; it remains to be seen how the combat system will work, a great success of the Rocksteady series. Four different heroes will be playable in a scenario that will give pride of place to ” villains of DC Comics“, With a Mister Freeze already confirmed:
Knights are left on their own to restore order to Gotham and chase villains through the city’s dark, cobbled alleys. Players take on the role of Batgirl, an extraordinary fighter and hacker, Nightwing, the wise head leading the troop and master of duels, Red Hood, extremely strong and skilled with weapons, and Robin, expert in combat and mental puzzles. Prepare to become a rider and explore Gotham like you’ve never seen it before.
If the first images still raise any doubts, Gotham Knights is meant to be very different from previous Batman games from Rocksteady; exit the sad loneliness of the dark knight, this new entry gives pride of place to multi-player play with the presence of an online two-player cooperation mode, making it possible to embody a duo among the announced quartet of heroes.
Expected by 2021, Gotham Knights will be part of PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC but also on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
