Derek Prue, from Alberta, Canada, noticed that his son no longer took off his shirt in public pools or crowded places. Derek Jr. was born with a large birthmark on his chest and began to feel self-conscious about showing it.
So this Canadian dad had the brilliant dream of getting a tattoo that matches his eight-year-old son’s birthmark, spending 30 hours under the needle in the process.
“He was always proud of his birthmark and then I saw that he began to hide it. I think maybe he was a little self-conscious about it. He wanted to achieve the same thing so that he was not the only one,” said the father, explaining that it motivated him to such a gesture.
Derek Prue senior secretly went to a tattoo studio thinking it would be a quick thing, a job that would be done in a session or two. But what I thought would be a few hours turned out to be 30.
Due to the size and position of the tattoo’s birthmark, it had to be cold treated several times to help with the pain.
