Gorica Grancharova-Kozhareva is acting prime minister – 2024-08-09 07:46:00

The new caretaker prime minister

Rumen Radev’s chosen one again comes from the Audit Office. The president announced that he had decided on the deputy chairperson of the audit institution, Gorica Grancharova-Kozhareva. Thus Bulgaria will have a woman prime minister for the second time after Reneta Injova.

“In fulfillment of Art. 99, para. 5 of the Constitution, President Rumen Radev appoints the Deputy Chairman of the Audit Chamber, Gorica Grancharova-Kozhareva, as a candidate for acting Prime Minister”, announced the press office of the head of state.

The candidate to head the Council of Ministers and the head of state will meet today at 10:30 a.m., when the president will welcome Kozhareva to the Presidency to entrust her with forming an interim government, Dondukov 2 reports.

Gorica Grancharova-Kozhareva had a meeting with Rumen Radev even before the appointment of the current cabinet,

but then refused to take the post. She appeared at the previous consultations together with her colleague Toshko Todorov, but remained silent, and only he spoke on behalf of the two, that they did not wish to become acting prime minister.

Who is Rumen Radev’s chosen one from the “home book”?
Kozhareva has been the deputy chairman of the Audit Chamber since 2015, elected with 144 votes of the then majority GERB, RB, ABV and with the support of PF. In the palace, he leads audit directorates, financial audits and audits of implementation, including of funds from the European Union. He is the Chairman of the Committee on Professional Ethics at the Audit Chamber, coordinator of the Chamber’s activities and relations with the Board of Auditors for NATO. Before the Court of Auditors, her career was spent in the NRA, Bulgargaz and the banking sector. The National Assembly elected her acting chairman on January 20, 2023 after the overthrow of the then Tsvetan Tsvetanov, who was removed with the votes of GERB, DPS, BSP and Bulgarian Rise. The court reinstated him, but the deputies elected a holder in the person of Dimitar Glavchev because of the expired mandate. Kozhareva remained his deputy.

Dimitar Glavchev declared a public refusal minutes before the news

Almost at the same time as the Presidency’s announcement, the current Acting Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev publicly gave up his request to continue governing, after several times in recent days he expressed his readiness to remain in the Council of Ministers. He did so with a post on Facebook.

“I would like to announce that I am withdrawing my stated willingness to accept the post of caretaker prime minister for a second time with a view to de-escalating political tensions. Thanks to my team for a job well done. We will continue to perform our work tasks until the appointment of a new acting Prime Minister”, wrote Glavchev in his profile, who should change places with his previous subordinate and return to the Audit Office after an unpaid leave.
