Gordon Henderson and Exile One Live Concert: Keeping the Cadence-Lypso Tradition Alive

The creator of the “Cadence-Lypso”, Gordon Henderson accompanied by the formula group Exile One, gave a big concert Sunday evening August 13 on the place of Calebassier within the framework of the patronal feast of Lamentin. At 74, the singer has lost neither the timbre of his voice nor his dynamism on stage.

Exile One band leader and founder Gordon Henderson lives up to his reputation. Exile One is still Exile One even if the musicians are no longer the same.

Gordon Henderson’s new formula is to have musicians on site who distill the Lypso-cadence. This concept works happily elsewhere in the world.

Cadence-Lypso is a synthetic music from the Caribbean. Having musicians playing the Cadence-Lypso is for me an act of transmission. Many musical artists play the Cadence-Lypso wonderfully well, whether in Reunion, the United States, the West Indies or the Caribbean.

Time has no hold on the star Gordon Henderson, in 50 years of musical life, he has kept this unique voice, this same tone on stage and the game with the public.

Sunday evening the leader unrolled. Among the musicians: one of the best Martinican drummers Jose Zebina, (forty years ago, José met the precursor of Zouk Gordon Henderson at his home near Champerret, in Paris), Thierry Boucou percussionist who worked with Yannick Noah. Chris Dachir, outstanding guitarist or Joseph Lancry, an exceptional keyboard, Pierre Villiers excellent trumpeter, John Mathieu saxophonist, bassist Charles.Lucien and the choristers Noelle Lemir and Mallory Modeste.

And the titles follow one another… Rosita, Nou travay pou ayen, Fraîche, An pé ké pwen’y, Never see that… These titles, interpreted by the Dominican singer Gordon Henderson were taken up in chorus by the public in a fervent musical communion.
