Google Photos: New updates area summarizes all interactions and shared content (screenshots)

For users of Google Photos It is easily possible to share the images, videos or albums stored in the cloud with other users. The sharing feature has been expanded to include conversations over time and now the integration of these interactions into the interface is changing. A new “Updates” area contains all interactions with other users in the form of a feed.

There is a change in the main navigation of Google Photos, which is positioned at the top: Instead of a person icon between the search field and your own account, there is now a bell. This not only removes the previous symbol, but also the previously used area. A tap now opens the new “Updates” section in the form of a full-screen feed with all recent interactions made by other users.

Here you will find all comments on photos, additions to photo albums, new shared photos and similar things that affect you and other users. Replies and messages from conversations are also listed here, but are only accessible through a separate menu. To do this, simply tap on the three-dot menu and select “Conversations”. A new list opens with all previous conversations.

The second point contains the “sharing activities”, which are also divided into shared links, shared memories or – and here we go in circles – conversations again. The new section does not seem to be fully developed yet and it is quite possible that in the future the differentiation will simply be organized with filter chips or simple categories. First of all, only the new icon and the summarized content are visible to all users with the latest version of the Android app.
