Google launches new interface for AI tool MusicFX DJ with Jacob Collier

Google has partnered with Jacob Collierthe multi-Grammy award-winning singer, songwriter and producer, on his latest AI project called MusicFX DJ, as reported DMN.

This tool generative music creation allows you to mix cues from instruments, genres, and even emotions to direct the flow of a continuous live music playback.

Collier’s work with the research team focused on the user’s creative flow state, based on the question: “What am I imagining today??” Collier mentions that that question has always inspired his creative process. “Answering that question gives you access to a kind of flow, and once you’re in that flow, you’re off and running,” he says.

MusicFX DJ can accept multiple cues, with the ability to adjust how much emphasis each has in the final continuous musical flow. Collier’s perspective helped the team develop an approach to providing creative control and tools for musical collaboration and artistic innovation. The controls allow adjust music to be faster or slower, brighter or darkeror to highlight specific sounds in the cues, which can be modified to have a strong or light influence on the music.

The creations made with MusicFX DJ They can be shared with others to use as a creative starting point. People can see a 60 second playback of the performance and remix it by taking control, adding his own cues and continually building on the track from his initial creations.

“Our collaboration with Jacob demonstrated the importance of experimentation in the creative process and how working closely with artists can expand the boundaries of creative tools,” says Google about MusicFX DJ. Generating a continuous flow of music that can be influenced by cues makes it possible to create music with little technical knowledge.

The new interface is much more intuitive than the one Google presented for MusicFX DJ in May 2024, highlighting Collier’s influence on the process. Along with the update of the new interface of MusicFX DJGoogle also released updates for its Music AI Sandbox y Dream Track on YouTube, giving Shorts creators the ability to generate high-quality instrumentals for their YouTube Shorts.
