YouTube is currently taking more action against users who use ad blockers, and at the same time the number of advertisements is increasing. In addition, there are initial reports of massive price increases affecting users in various countries.
German users are spared (for now)
This affects users in countries such as Denmark, where the individual subscription is set to rise from the equivalent of 15.95 euros to 18.63 euros. The family subscription is even set to rise from 24 euros to 34.72 euros. There are also reports in other countries that family subscriptions could rise to 25.99 euros, while individual subscriptions are set to be around 13.99 euros.
The price for YouTube Premium in Germany is currently 12.99 euros per month (or 129.99 euros annually). The family plan costs 23.99 euros and is valid for up to six people in a household. Students pay 7.49 euros per month for the discounted plan.
What YouTube Premium offers
In addition to ad-free streaming, YouTube Premium also includes the music service YouTube Music. However, in direct comparison with the market leaders Apple Music and Spotify, the service is not very popular. Many users have therefore called for the introduction of a slimmed down YouTube Lite or a better separation between YouTube Premium and YouTube Music to allow more flexibility in use.
For Germany, no Price increases announced, but the prices were already increased in November 2023.
