Google updates Call Screen on Pixels with Gemini AI, offering personalized responses to calls for a smarter, more optimized experience.
Call Screen, one of the most popular features of Pixel phones, is about to get even smarter. The system developed by Google is known to protect users from unwanted calls by letting Google Assistant answers phone calls for youfinding out who is looking for you and why. Since its launch in 2018, Call Screen has been expanded to new countries and improved to make it more effective. Aiming to offer a more personalized experience, Google is integrating AI-generated responses that adapt to the context of the query.
AssembleDebug has revealed that Call Assist on Pixel may soon get “AI responses”. In practice, this will allow the system to suggest more specific and useful answers based on the caller’s answers. At the moment, Google Assistant already provides contextual suggestions during calls, but these are often generic options. The goal is to make these responses more targeted and relevant, thanks to a greater ability to understand the context.
The teardown of the latest beta version of the app Google Phone (v153) by 9to5Google offers more details on the new feature. From the strings in the code it emerges that Google will use Gemini Nano to power AI responses, enabling a more natural understanding of conversations. Gemini Nano should represent a real turning point in making the interaction with Call Screen more fluid and immediate, suggesting answers that better adapt to what the caller has expressed.
There are still many unknowns about when exactly AI responses in Call Screen will be available to users. The feature still seems far from official release, but the AI integration aims to transform the way Call Screen works, improving call understanding and offering more useful suggestions. It is not difficult to imagine how this innovation could make the management of unwanted calls even simpler and more effective.
Currently, Call Screen remains exclusive to certain countries. The option of Automatic call screening and Call Notes is only available on Pixel phones in the US, with Call Notes limited to the Pixel 9 series screening manuale of calls, however, can be used in various regions, including the United Kingdom, Canada, France and Germany. Other functions, such as Direct My Callare limited to the US and UK, while Call Screen is also available on the Pixel Watch, but only in the US.
Expanding the feature to more regions would represent an evolution for Google. The goal should be to guarantee all Pixel users the same Call Screen experience, without differences between countries. The addition of more powerful AI makes Call Screen even more interesting, but it’s crucial that Google also works to bring these improvements to a wider audience.
