Today’s doodle celebrates the 150th anniversary of the birth of Julieta Lanterian Argentine physician of Italian origin and the first woman to vote in Argentina and South America.
He was born in 1873, in Italy, and when he was only six years old, his family emigrated to Argentinawhere she was the first woman to attend the National College of La Plata And I study pharmacology in the Buenos Aires’ University.
In 1907 he graduated from the medical degree, being one of the first five women who did it in that country. During the next 13 years, traveled regularly to Europe to work in hospitals and learn about the health care for women and children.
In 1910 he helped organize the first International Congress of Women.
The following year, she obtained Argentine citizenship and became the first woman to vote in South America in the Deliberative Council elections. Following this achievement, the Electoral Law to demand military servicesince at that time only men could enlist.
Despite the obstacles that were presented to her at that time, Julieta created her own politic party: the National Feminist Union.
Also, she was a candidate for national deputy from 1919 to 1932. Her party defended the universal suffrage, gender equality, fair working conditionschildcare allowance, maternity benefits.
