The Florentine singer-songwriter Susanna Parigi there is no more. She passed away today, December 18, in Milan. She was 62 years old. An illness took her away with it, leaving Italian art music emptier. An artist is leaving sensitivecapable of great carnality (especially in her relationship with the piano, with which she often accompanied herself, and which she had also played for Fiorella Mannoia and Riccardo Cocciante) and spiritual flights, a musician who has always stood out for her attention to wordbut also to canto through which to offer it with total adherence to the meaning. Starting with that ethicalwhich has always been the fulcrum around which his art has revolved.
With 8 albums under his belt, throughout his career he has collaborated with musicians of the caliber of Pat Metheny, NoahTony Levin, Noah, Naked Music; to the writing of the lyrics of one of his songs, Falsein the album In differencesthe philosopher had collaborated Umberto Galimberti. The insult of words, released in 2019, it included a video with testimonials from Pino Arlacchi, Corrado Augias, Lella Costa, Marco Travaglio. Her career has covered various roles – she also played in the Sanremo orchestra – which allowed her to formulate a very personal sound, a great fusion between necessary words and music, a study that resulted in the book Sound and the invisible – Music as a lifestyle, where he laid the foundations of his “literary music”. That is, of an idea of a song attentive to a content that is both poetic and social, which favors diversity as enrichment, the last as a resource. A highly esteemed teacher, she taught singing at the Bonporti Conservatory in Trento, at the Arrigo Boito Conservatory in Parma, at the Nino Rota Conservatory in Monopoli and at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan.
On social media, a long post by leave of absence where his whole soul is “passionflower” proud and kind, her sense of civility and of community: “If I write to you it is because I am walking towards the Father’s house. I wanted to thank all the people who have been close to me in this year of tribulations. They were many, wonderful and generous – we read – I wanted to thank the many students who I have been lucky enough to know over the years. A close relationship was born with many, made not only of music, but also of research and emotions. I wish you the best because the world that seems to inevitably overturn with you perhaps has hope. I thank the great artists who allowed me to work with them: Claudio Baglioni, Riccardo Cocciante, Tony Levin, Raf, Pat Metheny and then Corrado Augias, Lella Costa, Marco Travaglio. I obviously thank my historic musicians and also those with whom I hadn’t played for a long time. Each one gave me a piece of life. Sorry if I write in one go – continues the artist – but the moment is difficult. I thank my precious close friends and my family who made many sacrifices to give me this opportunity. I was lucky to have you next to me on my life journey. And then I thank you musica, always with me, always present, with a stormy but life-filling relationship. I’m leaving with a big one suffering, immense, for what happens to women every day. We should have thought about it before, at least eight years ago. There is one job to do re-education heavy on men, but not only. Women must learn to perceive the signals and not accept any form of possession. Here, I wish you all the best and thank you for following me all these years.”
