High blood sugar: causes and symptoms
The human body naturally has sugar, or glucose, in the blood. The right amount of sugar in the blood gives energy to the cells and organs of the body. A high blood sugar level is known as hyperglycemia or high blood sugar.
In order to keep blood sugar levels within a normal range, the body needs insulin. Insulin is a hormone that directs the body’s cells to take glucose and store it.
If the insulin does not work properly, the blood sugar builds up, leading to health problems.
Different types of diabetes lead to increased blood sugar levels. In type 1 diabetes, the immune system attacks the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. As a result, blood sugar levels rise.
When a person has a high sugar level in the blood, it can:
- have headaches and other pains
- finds it difficult to concentrate
- is very thirsty or hungry
- have blurred vision
- you feel tired or sleepy
- feels the need to urinate frequently

How to prevent high blood sugar: drink a golden drink
