Goodbye Germany: Oksana and Daniel Kolenitchenko are living the nightmare in LA – shortly before bankruptcy

The corona pandemic troubled many people in 2020. As club owners, Oksana and Daniel Kolenitchenko had no income for months.

Los Angeles, USA – Oksana (33) and Daniel (38) Kolenitchenko emigrate to Los Angeles together in 2018 and open a party restaurant there. Just as the “Goodbye Germany” couple started making profits, the lockdown suddenly came and forced them to close their bar. The two emigrants had no income for months – how long will this go well?

“Goodbye Germany”: The Kolenitchenkos are on the verge of ruin

It really is a living nightmare“, Says Oksana Kolenitchenko. The emigrants are trying to stay strong and fight their way through the crisis. But the “Goodbye Germany” participants have no choice but to stay at home and wait. Particularly annoying: The party restaurant started generating profits for the first time shortly before the lockdown. Now Oksana and Daniel still have to pay the rent for the shop and pay off existing loans – despite the lack of income. The mountain of debt is getting bigger and bigger.

“We can hold out a little longer now, but then it will end at some point,” says Daniel Kolenitchenko. A production employee asks: “And then?”. “And then at some point we’ll be bankrupt“, Replies the 38-year-old. In order to save money, the “Goodbye Germany” emigrants (these emigrants failed mercilessly) try to limit their expenses. Before, the entrepreneurs lived a life full of luxury – now they suddenly clean and cook themselves and son Milan (6) gets his hair cut by mom and dad.

Returning to Germany is still not an option. The Kolenitchenkos don’t want to miss their life in Los Angeles, the sun and the beach. Together they try to make the best of the situation. And the pandemic has at least one advantage: Oksana and Daniel suddenly have a lot more time for their two children.

Where everyday life used to rush past the two emigrants, No time for family because of all the work stayed, the Kolenitchenkos can now perceive everything much more consciously and pay more attention to their children.
