Goodbye Bandarmology? IDX will Remove Broker Codes in December

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – IDX will start implementing new features of the trading system on the stock exchange on December 6, 2021. IDX will launch new features of the Jakarta Automated Trading System (JATS) trading system and coincide with the closing of stock broker codes and investor types.

Later, investors will no longer be able to see members of the stock exchange (AB) who trade certain shares and the type of investor at the time of trading. New investors will find out after the trading session is over.

Adrianus Bias Prasuryo, Head of Research at Sucor Sekuritas, said that this feature will make traders return to micro analysis of trading, money flow, and value, not just fixing on broker code.

“Especially now, more and more people are learning about this, so there are fewer people who are in uncertainty,” said Adrianus in an InvestTime event, Tuesday (11/23/2021).

As for brokers, according to him, this will not be a problem and business will continue as usual. Even so, according to him, of course an adjustment is needed, although in a reasonable time and will not have a significant impact.

According to him, with the removal of the broker code, many methods can be used, both for the long and short term, depending on the plans and targets expected.

“The positive impact is that new investors and retailers will sharpen their education, literacy, fundamentals and technical skills because now there is no other choice,” said Adrianus.

Not only that, according to him, this will restore the nature of investment, including making investors more rational in their analysis. After this rule applies, investors cannot see which Exchange Member (AB) will trade certain shares, this broker code will only be visible at the end of trading.

This is considered to be very detrimental to retail investors where the broker code data alias broker summary which is one of the analytical tools often used by retailers has the potential to no longer be used effectively.

One of the most diligent analyzes using a broker summary is bandarmological analysis where this analysis predicts the buying (accumulation) and selling (distribution) activities of the big players on the stock exchange or commonly known as the dealer.

These retail investors will follow the city’s activities, when the city accumulates shares, then users of urban analysis will make purchases and when the city is accumulating and when the city is distributing its goods, then these retailers will also sell their goods.

With the loss of the broker summary, the bookmakers are likely to be more flexible in carrying out their movements, both accumulation and distribution without any significant disturbances because the dealer’s movements will be increasingly difficult to detect by retail investors.
