Good start, bad end for San José – Polideportivo

Deportivo San José, the sole representative of Paraguay, started the South American Basketball League by surprising locals and strangers, but was ultimately banned from the Final 8.

The “Santos” had first beaten the mighty São Paulo of Brazil and then the Colombians Tigrillos de Medellín. Unifacisa de Campinas Grande, losing to the Serie D hosts, however, gave up almost all their chances, confirmed definitively last night, when the local team beat the coffee growers.

Yesterday the outcome of this series was known, when Unifacisa, in the only match left in the group stage, also beat Tigrillos, with a score of 99-64. Unifacisa, São Paulo and São José added 5 points, 2 wins and 1 loss, but when they equal 3 teams in points, the results between the three involved are taken into account.

San José lost against Unifacisa by 13 points and there the situation became complicated, leaving them with a difference of -8, San Paolo advanced with -1 and Unifacisa with +9.

In any case, the effort of the team coached by Daniel Cano was very commendable, putting Paraguayan basketball into regional consideration.

The following clubs moved on to the next stage: Bauru, Unifacisa, San Paolo from Brazil, Boca Jrs., Oberá Tenis Club de Misiones, San Martín de Corrientes from Argentina, Aguada from Uruguay and Titanes Barranquilla from Colombia.

The crosses of the first round of Final 8 will be: San Martín vs. Obera, Boca Jr. vs. San Paolo, Unifacisa vs. Aguada and Bauru vs. Titans.
