Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Vaccines Covid-19 Pfizer products may be distributed to the United States (US) before the end of 2020 if proven safe and effective. This is the statement of the company’s CEO Albert Bourla.
Albert Bourla said that to achieve this target, companies must submit key final phase clinical trial data to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) by the end of October 2020.
“If the FDA approves the vaccine we are ready to distribute hundreds of thousands of doses,” said Albert Bourla as quoted by CNBC International, Monday (14/9/2020).
Previously, the FDA launched a program to accelerate vaccine development. You do this by funding potential vaccines. The FDA also said it was ready to give special permission to make a vaccine available immediately.
Pfizer collaborates with BioNtech from Germany to develop the Covid-19 vaccine. This vaccine contains a material called messenger RNA (mRNA). This vaccine was also funded by Microsoft founder Bill Gates.
The Pfizer vaccine is also considered to be one of the most advanced Covid-19 vaccines along with AstraZeneca and Moderna. Last week management filed for permission with the FDA to expand vaccine trials to 40,000 volunteers, an increase of 10,000 from the initial target.
As of July 2020, the US government has ordered 100 million doses of Pfizer vaccine if proven safe and effective. The US government paid US $ 1.95 billion to the company. As much as US $ 1.5 billion in funds have been invested for vaccine development.
Albert Bourla added that if this vaccine fails to work, it will have a painful financial impact on the company. “In the end it’s just money. It won’t damage the company even though it will hurt,” he explained.
