KONTAN.CO.ID – LONDON. One more tool to prevent Covid-19 from entering the market immediately. British researchers have developed a nasal spray that can prevent Covid-19 infection for up to two days and may be available in pharmacies within a few months.
Nasal sprays are made from materials that have been approved for medical use, meaning that they do not require further approval for use.
Scientists at the University of Birmingham have been developing the currently unnamed spray since April last year.
Talk to The Sunday Telegraphlead researcher Dr Richard Moakes believes the spray can help lift social distancing restrictions and reopen schools.

The spray prevents infection by trapping the virus in the nose and lining, which keeps the virus inactive.
He said they had spoken with a number of companies to be able to distribute it effectively.
“Our goal is to make an impact as quickly as possible, we really want to see this happen in the summer,” said Moakes was quoted as saying Daily Mail.
The spray prevents infection by catching the virus in the nose and coating it.
This means the virus cannot escape and renders it inactive and harmless.
Researchers believe using the spray four times a day is sufficient for general protection.
However, it is safe enough to apply every 20 minutes if needed, for example if the user is in a high-risk environment.
The sprays could be launched in a few months which means people can buy them over the counter at pharmacies.
