Former Brazilian footballer Pele is discharged after recovering from a urinary tract infection, hospital sources have revealed.
According to sources at the Albert Einstein Hospital, in São Paulo, Pelé was discharged last Saturday, after being hospitalized on February 13 to continue treatment for the tumor. The stay at the São Paulo medical center has been extended, they explain in a press release, due to a urinary tract infection, from which he is “cured” and is now “in stable clinical conditions”.
Pelé, 81, had already been hospitalized for cancer treatment between December 8 and 23. The fragile health of the triple world champion (1958, 1962 and 1970) and former Minister of Sports of Brazil, in the team of President Fernando Henrique Cardoso, has worried the country for several years, following several hospitalizations.
In 2019, Pelé, considered by many to be the best player in the history of sport, was hospitalized in Paris and then transferred to São Paulo, due to kidney stones.
