Good news from Winterthur – while the world is ending elsewhere, Giacobbo, Müller & Co. are finding their way back to black humour

Charity events naturally have a pornographic-obscene touch: the high society wallows in their abundance and throws alms around for the miserable. A through ball for every comedian – as long as he has the balls to mess with his potential patrons.

For its 20th birthday, the Casino-Theater in Winterthur, under the direction of Patrick Frey and Viktor Giacobbo, is putting on a variety program that savors precisely this ambivalence. The title of the performance says it all: “Charity – we give everything”.

The trip to Winterthur is worthwhile. First, the play is good entertainment. No one is spared, everyone gets their fat, from Magdalena Martullo to Jacqueline Badran, from animal rights activists to the windy Züriberg speculator who stupidly relied on an Indian vaccine and, yes, of course, a Russian oligarch. Between the hearty fare there is always some slapstick and music to loosen things up.

Above all, it is gratifying that proven greats such as Viktor Giacobbo, Mike Müller, Patrick Frey, Lara Stoll, Christian Jott Jenny and Stefan Büsser have found their joie de vivre and humor again after the corona shock.

And in between there is even a flash of the anarchic-black humor that made the undeclared star of the evening the most successful Swiss chameleon of all time. Giacobbo was (theoretically) not there at all, but only occasionally joined in on the action via zoom from an orangutan station in distant Sumatra.
