The most important message: Kate is returning to the public eye, albeit slowly. She is already working on projects, according to reports from the palace. The Princess of Wales has announced that she will be attending official appointments again in the next few months. The celebrations for Remembrance Sunday in November to commemorate the World War dead and the Christmas carol singing in Westminster Abbey, organized by Kate, are set to take place. When William travels to Wales for appointments tomorrow, she will not be there yet.
“I am delighted to hear that the Princess of Wales has finished chemotherapy,” tweeted British Prime Minister Keir Stamer. “On behalf of the whole country,” he sent his best wishes for a full recovery, added the head of government from the social democratic Labour Party on X (formerly Twitter).
The video of Kate and Co. – filmed in August in the eastern English county of Norfolk, where the family owns an estate – seems hopeful and dreamy. The camera follows the princess and her family through a forest and meadows in an artistically shaky manner, often in slow motion or with filters, and is there when Kate is driving in the car. The children play cards with their parents and run through the fields.
“The past nine months have been incredibly hard for us as a family,” Kate’s voice can be heard over the video. “Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate through stormy waters and an unknown path.” The message is deeply personal. Kate is shown holding hands and cuddling with her husband William, and her children Prince George (11), Princess Charlotte (9) and Prince Louis (6) are often in the picture.
Charles is also being treated for cancer
For the Royal Family, Kate’s recovery is long-awaited and important news in a difficult year. Kate’s father-in-law, King Charles III (75), has also been treated for cancer for months. He has been making regular appearances for some time now. In the summer, Charles’ sister Princess Anne (73), who has many appointments, also had to spend several days in hospital because she was probably hit in the head by a horse in an accident.
But Kate plays an important role for the monarchy, especially with regard to young people, among whom the monarch is not very popular. Together with her husband William, she is the most popular member of the royal family.
The clip brings things full circle. Kate also made her illness public in a video message in March. At the time, she was seen sitting on a bench, without her family at her side. Since then, Kate has rarely been seen. She last appeared in public at the awards ceremony for the Wimbledon tennis tournament in July, and before that on the sidelines of the traditional birthday parade “Trooping the Colour” for King Charles in June. Unofficial photos recently circulated of her driving with William to a church service in Scotland.
Goal: Stay cancer-free
The “journey” with cancer is complex, scary and unpredictable, Kate stressed. “With humility, it brings you face to face with your own weaknesses in a way you’ve never thought about before and with it a new perspective on everything.” She and William have thought about simple but important things in life that seem normal to many people.
“My focus now is to stay cancer free. Although I have finished chemotherapy, my road to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to live day by day,” said Kate. Despite everything that has happened, she is entering this phase of recovery with a new sense of hope and gratitude for life. Kate assured all cancer patients of her support. Details of her own illness are to remain private.
