SIE Company President and Chief Financial Officer Hiroki Totoki said Sony will release at least one major single-player game each year starting in fiscal 2025 (April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026). According to Hiroki Totoki, Sony gained valuable experience after the failure of the ‘unlucky’ game Concord.

This is great news for video game lovers, especially gamers who prefer exciting single-player games like God of War Ragnarök, Elden Ring, or Horizon Forbidden West. Today, gamers are no longer crazy about online service games and are switching to high-quality single-player games.

To meet the above demand, Sony plans to release many attractive single-player games in the near future.

According to experts, the new strategy makes sense and could bring high profits to Sony. Users of the PlayStation 5 (PS 5) family of consoles will be able to experience a variety of exclusive single-player games in 2024, but none of these games are developed by Sony. A game called The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered might be considered an exception, but it’s not a new game.

On 8/11, Sony announced relatively positive business results for the second quarter of fiscal 2024 (7-9/2024). Sony’s revenue and operating profit for the current quarter were 2.970 billion yen (USD 19.4 billion) and 455.1 billion yen, respectively, up 9% and 73% compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year.

According to Sony, the Gaming and Network Services segments contributed to the above positive business results. Sony’s gaming and network services segment revenue in the first quarter of fiscal 2024 reached 1.000 trillion yen, an increase of 1.000% over the same period of the previous year.

Sony sold 220,000 PS 2024 consoles in the fifth quarter of its third fiscal year, a 28% decrease compared to the same period last year. And Sony’s game sales this quarter also increased by 612.3% to 500 million yen. Sony’s exclusive PS 1,5 game Astro Bot alone sold 1,5 million units in the first 58 days after its release in September 2024.
