Good news Estavana Polman: ‘No new operation, but full for the World Cup’ | Sport

sport">The build-up player of Orange and the Danish club Esbjerg suffered a serious knee injury for the second time in a year in May. Polman said at the beginning of this month that her recovery is going less well than expected. Last week she had her right knee examined at the hospital.

sport">“I’m really good at it. But I’m dealing with a neurological problem in the control, the circuit between my head and the hamstring that controls the knee. That contact has to come back. And when that happens, the doctors don’t know either,” says Polman.

Knee injuries

sport">Polman won the world title with Orange almost two years ago. She was chosen as the best player of that World Cup in Japan. Six months later, Polman tore the cruciate ligament of her right knee. After months of rehabilitation, she returned to the Dutch selection at the beginning of this year, but in May she suffered another knee injury that required surgery. Polman therefore missed the Games in Tokyo.

sport">De Gelderse is working on her recovery at the Papendal training complex. She has also rejoined the Dutch team. Polman is part of the pre-selection of 34 players that interim national coach Monique Tijsterman has formed for the World Cup. “It will be all or nothing, there is nothing in between,” Polman said in the TV program last week Jinek. “Either it’s going to be crazy and I’m going to make it, or I have to go under the knife again. That is the harsh reality. The strength is good, but it’s about the combination between my head and knee, the timing when I tighten the muscles in my knee. It was 40 percent and that really has to be better now, otherwise I’m actually training for nothing.”

sport">The results of the studies give Polman enough confidence to continue working towards the World Cup. “I haven’t played any matches for 1.5 years. If I can come along, I’ll come along to support the team and get some rhythm. But I always say: I only need one ball. If it is 10 seconds from time 20-20 in the final, then give me that ball.”
