Due to the bad news that usually dominates NU.nl, the good news sometimes snows under. That’s why we’re listing some positive and cheerful messages on Saturday. With this week: the first energy supplier drops below the price ceiling with new rates, so that consumers can finally benefit from falling energy prices again. And: the prohibition of discrimination against people with disabilities will be included in the Constitution.
Good news about energy prices. Energy supplier Budget Energie announced on Wednesday that electricity can now be purchased cheaper than the price ceiling again. That is why the supplier has lowered its rates. Price comparators think that other energy suppliers will soon follow.
It was already forbidden to discriminate against people with a disability and LGBTQ+ people, but now it will also be stated in so many words in Article 1 of the Constitution. The Senate approved the proposal on Tuesday. Interest groups who have fought for this for years speak of a historic victory.
Microchipping cats can help them reunite with their owners more quickly when they go missing. Soon it will be mandatory for cat owners to chip and register their pets. With this, the government also wants to offer a solution for the increasing number of stray cats that live feral on the street.
