Good midfield in the DM with some “room for improvement”

Tough competition at German championships is normal. In Freiburg im Breisgau Beckum-Lippetal convinced with a good average.

Beckum-Lippetal (gl) – With a small delegation of 15 athletes, the Beckum-Lippetal local group took part in the 48th German all-around championships in Freiburg im Breisgau on the first weekend in November. 24 athletes per age group who had won their starting place in qualifying competitions were admitted.

From a domestic perspective, only Finn Maicher managed to do this this year. As a younger age group in the 17/18 age group, he showed solid performances in all races on the first day of competition and came in a good 17th place.

Trainer Michael Watzenig is satisfied with the performance of his protégé, but still sees “room for improvement” and refers to the sometimes different training options due to non-uniform corona rules. On the second day it was the turn of the team competitions.

With best times on a good 8th place

Here the Beckum-Lippetaler provided three teams. The best result was achieved by the AK 12 team made up of Greta Rischmüller, Mia Watzenig, Eva Stratbücker, Alexa Schwuntek and Ines Gundlach. At the end of a long day, the girls set new personal bests in all four seasons and were happy about their very good 8th place. The good atmosphere in the team and the encouragement of the experienced participants of the higher age groups also helped.

The AK 15/16 team had to do without Lara Vornholz due to injury and started as a quartet. Paula Rischmüller, Hannah Maicher, Luise Opperbeck and Leonie Watzenig did not let this get them down and even improved two places to 13th place compared to the pre-placement.

The AK 17/18 was also placed in 15th place. Fenja Beckord, Mareike Leier, Lena Illies, Carla Willenbrink and Pauline Vorholt showed a courageous competition and confirmed their rank in the water.
