Good luck to the audience – the group “Eagles of Death Metal” performs in Riga / Article

The band “Eagles of Death Metal” (“EODM”) was founded in 1998 by Jesse Hughes and Josh Homme, and was originally played by musicians from bands such as “Queens Of The Stone Age”, “Foo Fighters”, ” Tenacious D “,” Mastodon “and others. All this fits in very well with the EODM philosophy, because after all, the band’s concerts are like gathering good friends to spend time together musically and with humor. During its existence, the band has released four albums and one cover album.

The leader of the band, Jesse Hughes, has been noticeable from the very beginning with his rock and roll style, his public expressions and his extensive knowledge of the history of music. He is also involved in the solo project Boots Electric. When the EODM concert in Paris in 2015 killed 130 people, EODM and Hugh’s name gained worldwide attention. This tragedy broke the musicians, brought various public misunderstandings, but time heals wounds, as does the stage.

Performing is the best work in the world, according to similar entertainer Jesse Hughes.

Before the evening, the audience gathered at the Palladium Rīga concert hall to get acquainted with the new Irish band “Dea Matrona”, the core of which is Sisters Mollie and Mammie McGinn. The band’s music is blues rock, hard rock, demonstrating excellent guitar and bass playing skills, alternating instruments.

It is gratifying to see that the blues tradition is still alive among today’s twenties.

The EODM concert opened with a recording of the song “We Are Family” by the vocal group “Sister Sledge” in the 70’s, heating the audience to immediately start the instruments and control the listeners’ pulse for two hours. EODM’s music blends a lot of stylistic influence, making it a journey through the twists and turns of the California rock scene and popular American music in general. Simply put, “EODM” music can be called boogie hand with an emphasis on rhythm and mine creates a hypnotic feeling. Rock and roll musician Little Richard has influenced Hugh’s stage performances. When you’re in the audience, there’s nothing left but to dance – “EODM” moves your hips.

Textually, “EODM” is playful, humorous and flirtatious, referring to both the folklore heritage and various contemporary jokes. The concert featured songs from all of EODM’s discography, the best known being “I Want You So Hard (Boy’s Bad News),” Complexity, and “I Love You All The Time.” Each concert has its own list of songs. One of the culminations of the evening was the energetic Hughes, supported by the girls’ applause, on the balcony of “Palladium” jamming “Speaking In Tongues”.

The band played “Save A Prayer”, the band’s “Duran Duran” song, which took a new lease on the EODM version as a charity song, as well as cover versions of songs by David Bowie and Elvis Presley. We heard the excerpt “Motorhead” from “Ace Of Spades” performed by bassist Jennie Vee. It should be noted that this time “EODM” also included guitarists Josh Joe and Eden Galindo, but the drums were managed by Jorma Vik, who has played in the punk rock band “The Bronx”.

“EODM” performance “Palladium Riga” is one of the successes of the listeners of a small country – to experience an exclusive concert, which, for example, in Germany would be sold out at the moment (I say from my experience).

As a music viewer, I find it interesting – why? Probably this is because the tastes of Latvian listeners have been influenced by the British music industry, which has enough rock bands themselves, while the Americans “EODM” gained their popularity in Europe in German-speaking countries. “EODM” came to Latvia thanks to the optimization of the concert tour route, for which I am very grateful as a listener.
