Tokyo –
Takehiro Tomiyasu can’t close the joy of joining Arsenal. Because this could be a sweet start to revive his career.
Tomiyasu became Arsenal’s last purchase in the transfer market last summer, after being brought in for £19 million from Bologna. The price is quite expensive for a defender who “only” plays in Bologna.
So Tomiyasu was also plagued by injuries throughout last season which made him often absent. Whereas Tomiyasu recorded 64 appearances and three goals.
However, Tomiyasu no longer feels at home playing at Bologna given the club’s financial condition in the midst of the corona virus pandemic. So, when Arsenal came to bid, the 23-year-old defender did not hesitate to accept it.
Although Tomiyasu’s transfer is considered a gamble, considering that Arsenal are not intensely watching the player’s performance directly. Moreover, Arsenal actually need a defender who is more experienced to cover a crooked back line.
Therefore, Tomiyasu wants to get back to his best as soon as possible to help Arsenal compete in the top flight, after a brutal August.
“I feel the team has changed and it’s time to look for a new challenge. I’ve always dreamed of playing in the Premier League and I’m happy to join Arsenal, a big and global club,” Tomiyasu was quoted as saying. Metro.
“I am happy to be able to speak directly with the Japanese federation and also the director to go to Europe to complete the transfer. Because without their help, I cannot do it myself,” he continued.
“I’m not happy with recent performances. I hope this transfer will lead my team in a positive direction and I think we have to move on.”
Takehiro Tomiyasu has been plagued by injuries since 2020 but still has 64 appearances and three goals.
