Throughout Latin America, Catholic faithful commemorated Good Friday with reenactments of the crucifixion of Jesus. Venezuelans set effigies on fire as part of an Easter tradition, while zookeepers in Chile treated the animals to food-filled Easter eggs.

In the Mexican resort city of Taxco, a woman died after she was severely beaten by a mob for being suspected of the kidnapping and murder of a girl. And in Haiti, thousands of people have fled the capital in recent weeks because of violence.
