Good Friday is the saddest day for the Son of God – 2024-05-02 21:18:55

Good Friday is the saddest, most difficult day for the son of God – Jesus Christ. On that day, Christ suffered countless insults, torments and incredible suffering.

This is the day on which they crucified the innocent Jesus Christ – “tortured for our iniquities and tormented for our sins was offered as a sacrifice for the sins of all mankind”. On Good Friday, Jesus is buried in a stone sarcophagus in a cave, in front of which they place a guard and a huge stone at the entrance. On this day, his funeral is performed in the temples.

Believers on Good Friday go to church, pass three times under the table of health, come out and kiss the crucifix. At the morning service, twelve excerpts from the Gospel are read, which tell about the passions (sufferings – from Church Slavonic) of Jesus Christ.

At the service, believers hold lighted candles in their hands, symbolizing the greatness of the Savior during his sufferings and the spiritual awakening of Christians.

It is no coincidence that on this day of Holy Week, the fast is particularly strict – the church orders then not to eat anything and to drink only water.

On Good Friday, when the Savior dies on the cross, the Holy Liturgy is not celebrated during the day. At the evening service in the temple, Christ’s death is experienced – the Shroud of Christ dedicated to the burial of the Savior is taken out. Before the beginning of the service, the “tomb” of Christ is erected in the middle of the church, decorated with flowers, and the shroud is placed on the throne. It is a piece of cloth on which is embroidered the image of the position of the Savior in the tomb. The hymns are dedicated to the sufferings and death of Christ. One of the chants that is accepted to be performed at the Good Friday service is called “The Lament of the Virgin”. This prayer is read in memory of the mental suffering of the Virgin Mary, who stood by the cross of her son, uttering sorrowful words. During the liturgy, the shroud with which Christ’s body was wrapped after it was taken down from the cross is carried from the altar.

His funeral service is performed among white flowers. After the shroud is taken out for the evening service, it is walked around the temple and the burial of Christ is symbolically carried out. At the end of the service, the priest takes the shroud from the throne and places it in the “tomb” – in the center of the temple.

The veneration of the Shroud continues for two days, until late on Saturday evening, when it is brought back to the altar

– minutes before the Easter procession of the cross. It is absolutely forbidden to take up any work on Good Friday.

It is no accident what the old people say about Good Friday: “On this day the bird’s nest does not cry.” On Good Friday, one goes to church during the day and carries an egg and a geranium.
